Ballina Councillor Jeff Johnson today announced he is throwing his hat into the ring for the March state election.
Councillor Johnson will be standing as an independent candidate for the seat of Ballina.
The Nationals party has held the seat of Ballina for over 40 years, but Johnson says it’s time for fresh ideas and a different approach.
He says he is committed to protecting the region from coal seam gas and will work towards a declaration of a gasfield free northern rivers.
Councillor Johnson is also well known for his campaign to save the threatened koalas of the Ballina shire.
