GREAT WHITE RESPONSIBLE FOR FATAL SHARK ATTACK

The Department of Primary Industries has confirmed the shark responsible for killing a Japanese national at Ballina, was a three to four metre Great White.
41-year-old Tadashi Nakahara was surfing at Shelly Beach on Monday morning when he was attacked.
Fellow boardriders pulled him from the water and began first aid, but Mr Nakahara couldn’t be saved.
While patrols of the beach have failed to find any trace of the shark, beaches between Ballina and Lennox Head remain closed as a precaution.
The DPI says once surf conditions ease, the beaches will reopen.
