$1 BILLION DEAL FOR DOWNER EDI

Downer EDI has struck a $1-billion maintenance deal with Pacific National.
The 10-year contract will see Downer maintain around 300 locomotives, with much of the work carried out at its Hunter facilities, with the exception of Port Waratah, which has been slated for closure.
The AMWU says the deal highlights the capability of Hunter-based train manufactuers.
The union has again called on the state government to award a contract for 500 new intercity carriages to a local company, rather than sending work overseas.
