Police are investigating two overnight robberies in the neighbouring suburbs of Shortland and Callaghan.
A 35-year-old man was walking out of Tuxford Park just before 8pm, when he was approached by four men.
After handing over some personal items, he was punched in the face.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was walking towards the University of Newcastle campus at around 10:30pm, when a car pulled up nearby.
Three men demanded his personal belongings, before assaulting him.
Police believe the incidents may be linked.
