Santos’ Narrabri Gas Project will have to answer to additional guidelines set by the Australian government, after a federal assessment was requested.
It will involve a review of three major concerns, including threatened species like koalas, groundwater and Commonwealth land.
The gas company is seeking approval to drill 850 wells in the Pilliga Forrest.
It’s Environmental Impact Statement was due to be submitted by the end of the year.
