COUNCIL RATES CAPPED AT 2.4 PER CENT FOR 2015/16

New South Wales residents could be paying around $22 more on their rates next year.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal has set the rate peg for councils at 2.4 per cent for the 20-15/16 financial year.
It means the average household rate payer will be paying almost $1,000 in rates.
But some councils say it could leave them short, because they budget for a three per cent increase each year.
Any council looking to increase their rates by more than 2.4 per cent must apply for a special rate variation.
