RABBS RETIRING BUT NOT LEAVING
NBN personality Mike Rabbitt has announced he’ll retire from his role as promotions manager after 21 years and more than 30 at the station, but will remain presenting sport into 2015.
As promotions manager Rabbs has been a vital link in forging relationships in the business, sporting and general community. Outside of NBN he’s made a significant contribution to the Northern New South Wales and Gold Coast areas. In 2013 he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to the community.
“I’ll be hitting the road with my wife in the caravan and look at traveling overseas. My five grandkids will also get to spend time with Poppy Mike,” said Mike.
NBN CEO Deborah Wright, has praised Mike for the passion he’s bought to the job.
“Mike could call a backyard cricket match and make it a ‘sensational’ event and experience for everyone. Mike has a passion for all sport and a great interest, admiration and respect for all codes and athletes, from the disadvantaged to the elite,” said Wright.
Mike won’t be disappearing though. After a short break in December he’ll be back on board to present sport on a part-time basis and continue to compere NBN events during 2015 and beyond.
“You don’t just rack the cue. I want to keep giving back to the community, and besides the garden will be done in 20 minutes,” joked Rabbs.
Mike will take a small break from presenting from December 12 and return in January.
