Work on the truncation of the Newcastle rail line is moving ahead, with track work being undertaken between Broadmeadow and Newcastle Station this weekend.
The Sydney line was temporarily diverted to Broadmeadow today, as crews worked to install high voltage cables in preparation for the light rail upgrade.
The truncation is still planned for Boxing Day this year, despite a state planning inquiry examining decision making in inner city developments.
