WOLLOMBI PUBLIC SCHOOL TO CLOSE

A small Hunter school is set to close its doors at the end of the year.

The Department of Education made the decision to shut Wollombi Public near Cessnock, following a review.

The state’s Education Minister, Adrian Piccoli, has also signed off on the closure.

Parents of the five students enrolled at the school, say the consultation process lacked ‘integrity’.

They also claim the decision to close the school was made before this process.

But the Department says “the school has had a history of low enrolments over the last seven years, and there is no demographic evidence of any prospective significant rise.

“There was extensive consultation with the school communities of Wollombi and Laguna through meetings and written submissions between November last year and October this year.”

  1. Thank goodness for common sense. Now the resources & staff being used to educate these five children can be redistributed to other local schools & benefit more than just five kids.

Hopefully someone brings Martin’s Creek school to the attention of the department so they can check their enrolments too!
