Residents in Georgetown say recent maintenance by an electricity network has left trees in their streets butchered.

But Ausgrid says the change was necessary, to ensure the safety of the community.

  1. Aborists? Doubtful. Labourers only. Same here at Maryville, Islington, Wickham – looks like wilful damage by uncaring giant machete wielding machines vandalising not trimming for safety – but take a lovely shady walk around New Lambton or New Lambton Heights etc (as I did last week) and I was gobsmacked – I guarantee the trees in these neighbourhoods haven’t been touched in 25 years at least – beautiful huge leafy healthy trees naturally growing way above overhead power supply cables and poles. When areas such New Lambton Heights have trees left for beauty and clean air while the coal dust sufferers around the Throsby Basin are slashed, no wonder we are cynical and disappointed – shame on Ausgrid and the councils. Get with the times and leave trees for everyone not just some suburbs. Dare we suggest there is preferential treatment to some in certain areas?

  2. They’ve done the same around Maitland too!

Don’t they take any advice from arboriculturists???

Trees like this will never recover properly.
