An extensive rescue operation was conducted at Redhead, south of Newcastle, late today
after a man became trapped in a sea cave.
The Westpac rescue helicopter attended but was called off with ground crews instead tasked to walk and wade around a rock shelf to reach the man.
Although uninjured, concerns were held for his safety.
A falling tide assisted rescuers in reaching the 50-year-old who received minor treatment from paramedics.
