GONE WITH THE WIND
After standing tall for 17 years, the wind turbine at Kooragang Island is no more.
Contractors began pulling down the 73-metre high structure early this morning, with its blades grounded just after 10am.
AusGrid decided to dismantle the turbine due to its escalating maintenance costs, and the planned expansion of the nearby coal loader.
But it will get a new lease on life – it’s being relocated to Tasmania to power a chicken farm.
