BYRON COOKIE COMPANY DEFENDS HALAL CERTIFICATION
Byron Bay Cookie Company is defending itself, after fierce social media backlash over the Halal certification of its products, including its ANZAC biscuits.
Halal foods are those which are allowed to be eaten under Sharia law.
Outraged consumers have gone as far as saying the company is a traitor to the ANZAC tradition.
But a spokesperson from the company said it’s one of the largest employers in Byron Bay, which enjoys a healthy export market – and that halal certification is important for business.
