A rare beaked whale has been found washed up on Redhead Beach.
The animal was spotted at around eight o’clock, before marine wildlife organisation ORRCA and Lake Macquarie Council removed the carcass.
ORRCA is unsure what type of beaked whale it is, or whether it is a juvenile, saying very little information is known about the species.
An investigation is underway to determine how the whale died.
