GRETA MAN SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS FOR MURDER
A Greta man will spend at least 14 years and three months behind bars for murdering his partner last year.
George Robert Ballantyne was sentenced in Newcastle Supreme Court today, after pleading guilty to killing 23-year-old Clare Weston.
The mother-of-two was found on the bank of the Hunter River at Abberglasslyn last March.
Justice Robert Allan Hulme said Ballantyne had callously left her semi-naked body face down by the riverside.
He added, “I accept that he is sad and regretful, but in all the circumstances I am not prepared to find that he is genuinely remorseful.”
Ballantyne was sentenced to a maximum of 19 years.
