Greater Taree City Council is pushing ahead with work at Wingham, which will see Lobban Road and the Bight Bridge closed for up to 10 weeks.
There’s been strong community opposition to the closure, with concerns it will negatively impact on local businesses, and restrict access for residents on the Tinonee side.
But Council maintains the thoroughfare must be closed for safety reasons.
The works are due to start in the next fortnight.
