TRUCK DRIVER KILLED IN HIGHWAY CRASH

A 62-year-old man from Sydney has been killed, in a truck crash on the Pacific Highway south of Taree.
He was driving north at Nabiac, when he slammed into the rear of a b-double at around two o’clock this afternoon.
“As a result of that the rigid truck has left the highway and caught on fire. Unfortunately the driver was still in the vehicle and was unable to be extracated.”
The driver of the b-double escaped with just minor injuries.
Traffic was brought to a standstill, while emergency services attended the scene.

Sad and awful, and my thoughts are with the family.. But one wonders, how does one truck “slam” into the back of another? I guess a coronial inquest will answer this question in due course.
RIP Pop Forever Missed & Loved <3
From the team at Coffs Harbour Blinds & Awnings we would like to pass on our deepest sympathy to the family of Keith (aka ‘Klappy’). A man that always had a smile on his face, who’s happiness was infectious. RIP ‘Klappy’ you will be missed by the team.
It may or may not be relevant in this particular circumstance, but the issue of lack of adequate and suitable parking in which truck drivers can take rest breaks continues to surface.
The question seems to be becoming more urgent in the context of increasingly heavy B double traffic on the newly duplicated sections of the Pacific Highway.
It is ironic that, only a few hours before this horrible accident occurred, I photographed a bus stop on the highway in Urunga, almost completely filled by a large B double truck, and posted it to my Facebook page, with commentary about the State Government’s dereliction of its responsibility to ensure the provision of safe workplaces.
