KRIS LEES CARRIES LOCAL HOPES IN THE CAMERON AND NEWCASTLE GOLD CUP

The Newcastle Jockey Club’s biggest week of racing has begun, with a special barrier draw for Thursday’s Gold Cup.
Top weight Destiny’s Kiss will start from barrier one, while local trainer Kris Lees has three runners in the main event, including Taree Cup winner, Slivovitz.
The Lees stable will also saddle up Slow Pace in Wednesday’s Cameron Handicap.
“He’s quite capable fresh, he just got beat in the Newmarket back in autumn, we’re thinking he’ll have a good preparation, improve on his run on Wednesday, he’s a place chance.”
Lees had reason to celebrate today, with Lucia Valentina winning horse of the year, while the Paul Perry trained Scratch Me Lucky was named the best two-year-old.
