WHITEHAVEN HEARING ADJOURNED

A hearing into Whitehaven Coal’s winter tree clearing in the Leard State Forest was adjourned in the Land and Environment Court today.
In June the company was forced to stop clearing due to environmental concerns from the community.
It follows the company’s wish to amend its Biodiversity Management Plan, so it may be allowed to clear during spring.
The Secretary of the Department of Planning and Environment is expected to hand down a decision in the coming weeks.
Anti-mining activists say they are concerned for the welfare of native animals.
