TAREE COUNCIL 2013/14 BUDGET FINISHES IN THE BLACK
Greater Taree City Council has finished the 2013-14 financial year in the black, rather than the red, as was expected.
Council originally projected a deficit of more than $420,000, but has ended up with a surplus of almost $830,000.
The bulk of the savings has been made through improved efficiencies.
In 2010 councillors ordered a change in direction at council to improve its financial standing, and the mayor says this positive result is a reflection of that.
But he’s warned the council is still in a ‘dire position’ and some difficult decisions will have to be made in the future.
