ICAC: McKAY ‘SHOCKED’ AND ‘APPALLED’ BY REVELATIONS
Former Member for Newcastle, Jodi McKay, says she was “shocked and appalled and deeply saddened” by the recent revelations at the Corruption Commission inquiry into political donations.
Ms McKay made the statement to the media, after appearing before the ICAC for the second time.
“The last time I appeared here I thought I knew what had happened,” she said.
“And then over the last couple of weeks… I realised that isn’t the case.”
Despite stating the 2011 election was unfair, Ms McKay said she still held some regard for disgraced Newcastle MP Tim Owen.
Meanwhile earlier today, the ICAC heard ex New South Wales treasurer Eric Roozendaal was pushing for a coal-loader in Mayfield, despite advice against it.
Hunter businessman Nathan Tinkler was behind the proposal.
During her testimony, Ms McKay described that period as “all out war”.
She also said she hasn’t spoken to Mr Roozendaal since an argument over his support for the plan and doesn’t intend to again.
The ICAC has gathered evidence that Mr Tinkler helped fund a campaign to oust Ms McKay at the 2011 election, in violation of laws which prohibit political donations from property developers.
