Smoke filled the streets of east Tamworth as the roof of a home went up in flames overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Carthage Street home at about 7.30, where crews found the roof well alight.
Fire fighters broke into the home from the front and back entrances, as well as the roof.
It took about 40 minutes to extinguish and secure surrounding properties.
“After the initial knockdown they conducted a search of the premises but nobody could be found the residents later turned up and advised us nobody was at home.”
