The Central Coast is one of the first regions to pilot a new screening service that allows patients to bypass what’s often considered an embarrassing trip to the doctors.
The SmartSex website allows users to go online to order tests for various sexually transmitted infections, which they take to their local pathology.
Results are then sent via text message, and patients are referred to their chosen GP should they need treatment.
The website’s creator hopes by eliminating the initial doctors visit, more people will be willing to be tested.
The service is also being trialled in Wollongong and Canberra, before it’s rolled out nationally.
