CALL FOR MORE EDUCATION ABOUT HEPATITIS
Hunter New England Health believes there needs to be more education about Hepatitis.
The message coincides with Hepatitis Awareness Week, which kicked off on Monday.
The condition is more common than cancer, but there’s no symptoms, so can go unnoticed.
Hepatitis C is mostly contracted through drug injections, but can also be transmitted through blood transfusions, and tattooing.
In some cases it can mean inflammation of the liver, but other cases can be more severe.
“Alcohol can play a contributing factor to making the severity of their liver condition worse if they’ve got Hepatitis. There’s Hepatitis B and C, which are the most common forms of Hepatitis that can cause chronic liver disease and on going problems for the future.”
