A man is in John Hunter Hospital with a fractured neck and sternum, following a violent home invasion at Mayfield.
The 57-year-old answered a knock at the door of his Hanbury Street unit at around 6:20 last night, when he was confronted by two men, one armed with an axe.
A fight broke out and the man was punched in the face.
He then escaped out a window and fell three storeys.
His attackers are described as of Caucasian appearance, between 30 and 40-years-old and wearing balaclavas.
