Police have confirmed a swimmer missing off South West Rocks is a Swedish exchange student.
The 26-year-old was camping with a companion at the Smokey Cape Camping Reserve, when he went for a swim at about 5pm.
About 15 minutes later, it’s believed the man got into difficulty and disappeared.
An immediate air and sea search of the area failed to find the man and was later called off due to rough surf conditions.
Efforts are continuing to locate the man, in the area south of Smokey Cape Lighthouse.
