STATE DECIDES NOT TO APPEAL LAND CLAIM WIN OVER HISTORIC POST OFFICE

The state government has decided NOT to appeal a successful claim for the old Newcastle Post Office, by the Awabakal Aboriginal Land Council.
Just over a month ago, the Land and Environment Court ordered the state to transfer ownership of the post office to the land council.
The government is now expected to hand over the keys in the next few months.
Awabakal leaders are pushing ahead with plans for a cultural centre, but will discuss options at a board meeting later this month.
