Police have arrested a man after a 12 hour standoff that closed one of Newcastle’s busiest streets.
Darby Street between Tooke and Parkway Avenue was blocked while police negotiators worked to bring the tense situation to a safe resolution.
The man armed with knives and threatening self harm barricaded himself in a Department of Housing Unit.
Morning traffic was diverted around the area as negotiators continued to communicate with the man.
