PENSIONER DISCOUNTS TO COST CLARENCE COUNCIL MORE

The Clarence Valley Council says it may have to find more money to top up pensioner discounts for rates as a result of last week’s federal budget.

Council’s Corporate Director Ashley Lindsay says the discounts are jointly covered by state and federal grants and a council subsidy but the Abbott Government intends to terminate its funding from July 1 this year.

Mr Lindsay says that means the council will probably have to increase its contribution at an estimated cost to council of more than $121,000 next financial year.
