COUNCIL WITHDRAWS SUPPORT FOR MINE EXPANSION

Gloucester Shire Council decided it will withdraw its support for the proposed expansion of the Stratford mine, at this morning’s final meeting of the year.
Initially, council agreed to the expansion subject to three conditions; firstly that the mine move no closer to the village, its 24-hour activities be limited and the landscape be restored after the mine’s life.
It says the state government’s Department of Planning has ignored those recommendations in its preliminary assessment report.
Council will now make an amended submission to the Department.
