A Caves Beach community group has accused Lake Macquarie Council of siding with developers by recommending a suburban road be reopened to traffic.
13 years after promises it would never happen, a report will go before councillors on Monday suggesting Spoon Rocks Road be reopened to service traffic in new housing developments south of Pinny Beach.
There were 136 objections to the plan, including a 1351 signature petition, because of the extra traffic it would send past the surf club and highschool.
Council says the move makes sense, otherwise new residents would be forced to take a 5-minute drive down the highway to get to Swansea.
