BIRIGHITTI NAMED JETS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti has been named the club’s player of the year for 2012/2013.

The 21-year-old was up against Emile Heskey and captain Ruben Zadkovich but was awarded the title at a ceremony at Merewether Surfhouse last night.

Despite breaking his cheekbone early in the season, Birighitti made 22 appearances for the side and finished the year with a total of 63 saves.

Jets coach Gary van Egmond said Birighitti had a standout season.

“He continued to grow and develop as the season went on and it was fantastic to see the way he asserted himself in his position.”

“The challenge for him now is to back up and have an even better year next season.”

Andrew Hoole took out the National Youth League Player of the Year award, while 19-year-old Hannah Brewer was awarded the W-League player of the year.
