Wealthy Tugun residents are trying to buy up beachfront land in front of their homes.
Some are worried that a future footpath or oceanway might devalue their properties.
It comes after council warned locals that they are about to start taking down fences and showers on public land.
“Cycle way up here should do well I think alot more people get out and about getting fit at the same time.”
“I think a path should be built there for the locals to walk along.”
“If someone’s going to buy that then I’m worried that they’ll have control over that prime land but also land that everybody should have access to.”
The State Government is considering eight applications to have the road reserve permanently closed and sold off.
