CENTRAL BEAT SOUTHS IN THRILLER

In the Newcastle Rugby League finals series, Central has defeated Souths in a thriller, 30 points to 24.

With Townson Oval too soggy, the qualifying final was moved to Maitland Sportsground and the defending premiers took to the dry track.

But Central found their feet and levelled.. before they hit the lead unchallenged.

That’s where they stayed until late before the fast finishing Lions hit back, Central though showing enough grit to grind out the win.

The Butcher Boys will now play Wests for a Grand Final berth… while Souths face Cessnock in the minor semi.
