BOGGABRI COAL FINED FOR WATER POLLUTION

Boggabri Coal Mine has copped a $3000 fine for polluting a tributary of the Namoi River.
The New South Wales Environment Protection Authority issued the fine, saying stockpiles of excavated material leaked into the waterway during wet weather.
EPA North director Gary Davey says the incident didn’t cause significant environmental harm, and Boggabri Coal co-operated fully during its investigation.
The mining company has since taken measures to prevent further pollution.

It must be very hard to prevent the odd run-off problem during storms from a huge operation like this one. How was future pollution prevented? Additional rainwater storage/ lagoon storage might be needed?
