BASIC SERVICES LACKING IN THE REGIONS

A new report released by the Australian Council of Social Service has found that access to basic services like employment, health and education is significantly poorer for people living in regional areas.
The results echo the findings of a study conducted by the Northern Rivers Social Development Council earlier this year.
“People are being squeezed in regional areas in two ways one is their level of income is much lower. Our average income here for example is only two thirds the average of the state.”
The council says the solution to regional poverty lies in education and keeping public service jobs in the regions.
