Defending champion’s Merewether have survived a scare against Waratah-Mayfield, with Mark Cameron scoring 95 not out to rescue the Lions who were struggling at 4 for 6.
In other games, Wallsend beat Uni, Toronto and Charlestown also scored wins in round one, which doubled as a round of the SCG Country Cup.
At Waratah Oval, Merewether was defending 193 and Cameron was just as sharp with the ball, snaring the wicket of James Rushford.
