URALLA COUNCIL MAKING PROGRESS WITH ARSENIC WATER TREATMENT

Uralla Shire Council says it’s made significant progress in reducing arsenic concentrations in the town’s water supply.
Initial tests indicate the contamination can be reduced by up to 95 per cent.
Council believes springs feeding the streams entering Kentucky Dam are responsible for producing the arsenic.
Further tests over coming days will confirm whether the approach has been successful.
In the meantime, residents are advised to avoid using tap water for drinking and food preparation.
Bottled water can be collected free-of-charge from the town’s supermarkets.
