M1 FIRE INVESTIGATION BLAMES HAZARD REDUCTION BURN

Investigations have revealed, the blaze that caused traffic chaos on the M1 last week was the result of embers from a hazard reduction burn conducted by the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.

After an unexpected wind change, fire jumped to the other side of the highway causing hours of delays for commuters.

The circumstances leading up to the fire breaching containment lines remain under investigation.
