ACCESS TO MUTTONBIRD ISLAND SET TO IMPROVE FROM JUNE

After lengthy delays to the upgrade of Coffs Harbour’s Northern Breakwater, getting to and from Mutton Bird Island will soon improve.
Repairs and construction have limited access since April 2016.
Local member Andrew Fraser says the lengthy timeline has made trading difficult for jetty businesses.
“This has got to be one of the most frustrating things besides the slipway that I’ve had in relation to the Harbour, in reality we would hope that it’s going to open some time in June, especially past the restaurants and shops.”
The Department of Industry says rock supply issues have caused the delay, and is hopeful sections will be open on weekends from June.
The rest of the work should be completed by the end of September.
