STAFF RALLY AGAINST MAITLAND HOSPITAL MODEL

There are fresh calls for the state government to reverse its decision to build Maitland’s new hospital with a non-profit provider.
Around 40 healthcare workers rallied against the move today.
“What do we want? A public hospital. When do we want it? Now!”
In July, the Health Minister scrapped plans for a public-private partnership, to pursue the new model.
“We know Shellharbour, Wyong, Bowral and Goulburn – those that were previously listed to the privatised have been taken off and we want to find out why is Maitland any different?,” said Damien Lee from ASMOF the Doctors’ Union.
“Maitland deserves just as much as every other area in the state so why can’t we have a fully public hospital?” Said Labor MP Jenny Aitchison.
The minister is yet to respond.
