ARSON SUSPECTED AT SALT ASH FIRE

Around 300 hectares of bushland has been burnt in the Tilligerry State Conservation Area by what’s thought to have been a deliberately lit fire.

National Parks and Rural Fire Service fire fighters worked into the night, establishing containment lines around the fire in the Salt Ash and Medowie areas.

Flare-ups today caused smoke to drift across some residential areas but the Rural Fire Service says no properties have been damaged.

Crews had to recalled from scheduled hazard reduction operations to combat the fire.
