A Banora Point nursing home is in mourning following the tragic death of an 84-year-old resident.
The man, using a walking frame, was trying to cross Leisure Drive just after six o’clock last night, when he was fatally struck by a Toyota Tarago.
It happened just metres from a pedestrian crossing.
“Apparently from what we can gather vehicles in the lane closer to the gutter actually slowed down and nearly stopped and then the driver of the other vehicle didn’t realise what was happening, stepped off in front of that vehicle and has been hit by that car.”
The driver, who was severely shaken by the accident, is assisting police.
