WORK BEGINS ON EASTERN BREAKWATER PROJECT IN COFFS

Work on the $14 million renewal of the Eastern Breakwater in Coffs Harbour is getting underway.
Many of the two thousand concrete blocks needed for the project have arrived on site.
Manufactured locally, the blocks will be used to reinforce rocks on the breakwall and are designed to last for at least 50 years.
A state government spokesman says the Australian owned contractor JDS Group will be doing most of the work and is expected to hire local labourers.
Subject to weather conditions, the project should be completed within 18 months.
