Two inmates will front court today charged with attempted murder, following a stabbing at the Mid Coast Correction Centre in Kempsey.
Emergency services were called to the prison just after 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, responding to reports an inmate has been stabbed multiple times.
The 26-year-old near his cell when he was allegedly knifed several times in the neck, chest and back.
He was flown to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
The two inmates allegedly behind the ambush were arrested and charged with attempted murder.
They’ll appear in Port Macquarie Local court later today via video link.
