PEPPERWOOD’S RECORD BREAKING CUP

It was a dream run in more ways than one for Queensland gelding Pepperwood in the yesterday’s Coffs Cup, with race conditions working in the nine-year-old’s favour.

“I just had to run him quiet and as I said everything worked out for me and I got all the runs up inside and yeah he’s just an old Marvel” said jockey Glen Colless.

“He’s a horse that doesn’t need to cut in the ground. The weather wouldn’t have wanted to be much drier, it just had enough cut to work his old legs and everything worked out well” said trainer Liam Birchley.

In addition to making history by becoming the first horse to win the race back to back, the $70,000 prize-money took his career earnings to over $1-million.
