CITY HALL SET FOR A REVAMP
Newcastle’s City Hall will get a makeover this week following weeks of cleaning preparations.
Some of the existing landscaping was removed from the exterior of the building, with beds to be replanted after the work is complete.
However cleaning the facade is only the beginning of repairs for the building which is crumbling in parts, with restoration tipped for the entire hall including the clock tower.
Infrastructure Services Manager, John Johnston says the works have been a long process.
“Council completed a trial repair of a section of the eastern façade in 2010 with the aim of scoping the extent of works required for the remainder of the building. This was a very successful endeavour which saw an entire section of the facade deconstructed, removed, repaired and rebuilt.”
