FERAL PIGS CAUSING CONCERN

The Livestock Health and Pest Authority is urging property owners to take action, as feral pig numbers continue to rise across the state.

The increase in the animals has seen extensive damage caused to crops, with the pests also targeting lamb populations.

“When you’ve got big numbers like this, you need to undertake poisoning and trapping. So, you’ll actually get larger numbers in one go. If you go out using hunting and stuff, it’s got a propensity to disperse them and get the pigs a lot more difficult to control.”

Landholders in need of help controlling feral pigs should contact their local LHPA office.
