Brent Dorrington came in fitth, while Mitch Crews made it into the semi finals.
But it was Sunshine Coast ace Julian Wilson who tamed the waves, throwing caution to the wind, and taking to the air, perfectly landing several low percentage aerials to knock out local legend, Jordy Smith.
“I had to reassess and surf the second half of the heat in a different way and I did that and it was enough to win and enough to get big scores you know the first half of the heat went his way, and the second half went my way.”
He walked away with forty thousand US dollars.
