CHANGES TO STATE LIQUOR LAWS

The State Government is calling on the community to have its say on amending liquor laws.

The Liquor Act 2007 and the Gaming and Liquor Administration Act revisions are part of a five-year statutory review, which saw a major overhaul during 2008.

New laws introduced in 2008 represented the biggest change in a quarter of a century, with changes to penalties, new offences and expanded regulatory powers.

However, Minister for Hospitality George Souris says this year’s review is likely to be less of an overhaul.

“The review will determine whether the policy objectives of the Acts remain valid and whether the terms of the Acts remain appropriate for securing those objectives,” he said. “It will consider submissions from community, Government and industry stakeholders, as well as the experience of regulators in NSW and developments in other jurisdictions”.

While the Act will be reviewed as a whole, troubled liquor and gaming spots, such as the Hunter will be noted.

“The situation in high risk precincts will, of course, be an important issue for consideration in the review”.

Anyone interested – including industry, regulators, the health sector, the community and advocacy groups – can lodge a submission until August 30.

  1. Close the pubs earlier, moniter the hot spot nightclubs and make sure they are not letting in people already loaded up with alcohol to keep on drinking, this is where they become invincible and when most of the damage is done. Make them pay for the MEDICAL COSTS for their victims. MAKE THEM RESPONSIBLE for the damage they incur.

  2. What kind of new laws are being submitted?
I think it should be mandated the the government should provide free transport to and from pubs a lot of these boose buses only go with in 5 k’s of the facility, this is a concern there are a lot of people that live further then that away from local dinking spots. use the money you take in fines for drink driving to pay for it and use it wisely rarely is it mentioned where the money goes from the punishments you wish to enforce go.
LET THE PUBLIC KNOW WHERE THIS MONEY GOES SO WE KNOW IT DOESN’T JUST LAND IN YOUR OWN POCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
